The Lost Lament quest in Destiny 2 allows Guardians to acquire The Lament, a powerful Exotic chainsaw sword that excels at high damage output and self-healing. To initiate this questline, players must first complete the main Beyond Light expansion campaign and visit Banshee-44 in the Tower. Following this quest sends players across Europa to unearth lost Exo history and defeat Vex forces.
Starting the Quest and Scanning Dead Exos
After receiving the quest from Banshee-44, your first objective is to locate and scan three Dead Exos hidden across Europa. Although nine total Dead Exos exist on the icy moon, scanning any three will satisfy the requirement. Prominent locations include Cadmus Ridge, the Concealed Void Lost Sector in Asterion Abyss, and inside Bray Exoscience.
Once three Dead Exos are scanned, you will be instructed to locate the Giant Exo hidden deep within the Bray Exoscience facility. Pathing through Creation leads players directly to the massive Clovis AI head. Interacting with the AI will unlock the next set of combat challenges needed to prove your strength.
Defeating Vex and Completing Europa Challenges
The Clovis AI requires you to defeat Vex using swords across Europa, requiring 100 total sword final blows and 20 sword final blows against Minotaurs, Hydras, or Cyclopes. Running the Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge is one of the most efficient ways to quickly spawn eligible targets. You can also complete Vex public events to speed up your progress.
Next, players must complete a weekly Exo Challenge activity unlocked through Variks. Following the challenge, you must defeat Vex using finisher moves, where defeating powerful yellow-bar enemies yields faster completion. Finishing these steps grants access to the next phase involving weapon retrieval.
Recovering the Blade Pieces and the Abandoned Bunker
To construct the blade, Guardians must launch The Glassway Strike on Europa and defeat a specific Transcendent Harpy miniboss that spawns during the final encounter. Collecting the dropped blade pieces allows you to return to Banshee-44 in the Tower for further repair instructions. He will direct you back to Europa to explore an abandoned bunker located in Eventide Ruins.
This abandoned bunker is actually the Bunker E15 Lost Sector in Eventide Ruins. Clearing out the Lost Sector and looting the final chest rewards you with the blueprint required to reforge the sword. This step unlocks the story-driven finale of the questline.
Reforging the Past and Claiming The Lament
With the blueprint acquired, the mission "Reforging the Past" becomes available on Europa. During this mission, players defend the Clovis AI head from an intense Vex invasion and wield The Lament directly during combat. The weapon features the unique Banshee's Wail trait, allowing players to rev the blade for massive damage and heavy shield penetration.
After completing the mission, return to Banshee-44 at the Tower one final time to complete the quest and keep the Exotic sword permanently. The Lament remains an essential addition to any Guardian's arsenal for end-game boss encounters and high-difficulty activities.
